...while looking ahead, I tend to look into the rear-view mirror of the past year as well. Do you do that too? At the moments you treasured, the good, the bad, the hurtful, the joyful, frustrating, devastating, miraculous, the (fill in the blank).
I love all the movies, new and classics alike that occupy much of the airtime on T.V. while in homes around the world, yummy, decorative cookies are being baked…mmmmm they smell good, don’t they? And families are making plans to gather together to carry on with favorite traditions. It truly is a magical time of the year where the impossible seems possible doesn’t it?
The gathering of those who are close to us and celebrating without the stress of gift buying and giving that goes along with Christmas is one of the reasons I love Thanksgiving. Now don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas too! It is my absolute favorite Holiday but there is something about the simplicity of Thanksgiving that holds great appeal for me. A day dedicated to giving thanks. No gifts necessary, just an attitude of gratitude.
When I start something new, I have this crazy thought like “Oh this will be fun!” Anyone relate? I also love completing a project or reaching a goal. To see the idea come to fruition is a beautiful, rewarding and greatly satisfying moment. But, between the excitement of starting and the satisfaction of completion, is the middle!
What or who do you put your hope in? Where do you find your hope? A relationship? The stock market? The amount of "likes" on your Social Media posts? Or maybe you put your hope in your job or college degree. Yourself?
Everyone I talk with is so over this winter! We are ready to venture outside and get to doing the things we love to do in the great outdoors, whatever that may be for you. Do you relate? Or are you the type of person who just loves all this cold weather...
Ever get scared in the night? In the dark, our imaginations can run wild and things can seem scarier than they actually are. Every little thing becomes a monster. Typical minor problems feel overwhelmingly impossible to deal with in the dead of the night then in the light of day. And in those foreboding moments, has anyone ever told you that things will look better in the morning? Why is that? The darkness shrouds reality and twists it into something hideous. Unrecognizable. Unmanageable. When in truth —in the light—it's not that terrifying, not so unmanageable.
All roads lead somewhere—right? And other than the ones that are clearly marked with a 'dead-end' sign on them, they do. Even if we turn down a wrong street, it will take us somewhere—maybe not where we want to go, but somewhere! But have you ever felt like you were going down a road that led to nowhere?
Check out this new post by my daughter all about their first trip into Africa!
It's not the most travelled Holiday of the year without reason. Seeing family and loved ones to celebrate with and give thanks together for the year of blessings is important. We were created for family, for community.
